Bank Regulatory Counsel Duties: Advise and counsel internal clients and management regarding compliance with state and federal banking laws and regulations, including deposit taking, anti-money laundering and know your customer, bank capital requirements, and bank security. Interact with banking regulators and examiners, including with the FRB-NY, FDIC and UDFI on regulatory issues. Manage outside counsel on bank regulatory issues and develop sufficient in-house expertise to reduce the reliance on outside counsel. Maintain knowledge of new legislation and developments in state and federal banking legislation and regulation, industry best practices, and trends. Respond to day-to-day policy issues raised within the organization and provide guidance and recommendations for problem resolution.
Requirements: Juris Doctorate from accredited law school. 10+ years of experience is required. Admitted to practice in any state and eligible for New Jersey In-House Limited License. Expert knowledge of federal and state banking laws and regulations, including those governing taking deposits, anti-money laundering and know your customer, bank capital requirements, and bank security. Knowledge of consumer lending laws desirable. Experience with large regional commercial banks preferred. Experience working with federal and state banking regulators, including national and regional offices of the FRB, the FDIC, and at least one state banking agency. Significant experience working directly with internal clients, including senior management. Knowledge of European Union, Canadian and English banking laws desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex legal information to a diverse audience.
